Best Microsoft Vista Feature

Microsoft recently released the latest Microsoft Vista RC1 operating system (build 5564) to half a million Technical Beta Program, MSDN and Technet Subscribers. Another 2 million copies of the OS will also be placed in magazine inserts for the public. Though it’s not the final version to be released, the OS has dramatic improvements over the previous build. One particular feature that I’m impressed with is Windows Readyboost.

Windows Readyboost is by far the best feature of Vista because this technology allows you to improve your PC’s performance simply by adding a removable flash memory (thumbdrive) device into the pc. So say your machine has 512MB of RAM and you’re about to launch an application which is very resource hungry, simply plugin your 1GB usb 2.0 thumbdrive and you can experience better application performance. One example when this would come handy is when you’re about to launch any Virtual applications such as Microsoft’s Virtual PC. These applications usually take up lots of RAM and does not allow you to start the Virtual PC image without having sufficient RAM in the machine. With Windows Readyboost you no longer need to open up your machine to add additional RAMs. Just plug in your Thumbdrive and your machine’s boosted with performance.

If you’re worried about reliability and security, Windows Readyboost provides protection on the data stored in the device through encryption technology to prevent inappropriate access of data after the device has been removed. Windows Readyboost is by far one of the most unique feature any Operating System can offer as it provides deep integration with hardware capabilities.
