Reliable yet Affordable Backup Software for Windows

Monday 19 May 2008 @ 1:27 am

Have you ever encounter this? Your machine locks up, hangs for over 10 minutes and when you decide to hard reboot it, it just never comes back? Your machine just fails to start! If you are in that situation right now, you must be asking yourself… why didn’t I save those important files on my external hard disk? It is quite common not to backup our files and data externally simply because we trust that our hard disk will never fail on us. Not having backups is like walking on a thin wire. You’ll never know when it will just fail and fall.

So before any disaster strikes, do you have a reliable backup solution in place? Can your machine be restored in case of a deadly virus attack? If you have several servers in your data center, do you have a disaster recovery plan in case any of the servers go down? How long can your customers wait before they decide to just drop and move on? No doubt, high percentages of uptime can only be achieved with reliable and affordable backup software in place.

With so many backup solutions out there in the market today, it can be a daunting task to select a particular backup solution. We also know that most enterprise backup solutions are expensive. Key Benefits Of Medical Transcription Software

By: Rao Atluri

The increasing demand for skilled medical billing and coding specialists can be attributed to the growing use of medical transcription software for healthcare organizations around the globe. Medical transcription software has slowly replaced the need for manual transcription services that could take up to a week to turnaround a dictation; today’s innovative software and technologies are designed to automate the dictation-to-reporting process so that the final product can be retrieved within 24-48 hours.

Many medical transcription companies now use medical transcription software to capture the dictation and turn it into an accurate report. Coding specialists must be trained to use the this specialized software, and these programs offer several benefits for any data processing agent.

Some of the key benefits of medical transcription software include:

1. Easy voice capture and speech recognition capabilities. This makes it easier for the medical transcriptionist to capture the doctor’s dictation with utmost accuracy. Doctors can submit their dictation via phone or other recording device to make the audio file available to the coding specialist, and the voice capture technologies can make this process more accurate than conventional methods.

2. Medical spell checking and dictionaries. Since a coding specialist may not understand medical terminology and phrases, a medical spellchecking function may be incorporated into the medical transcription software. This also makes the data capture more accurate and can save time in the grammar and spellcheck process.

3. Easy document distribution. After the report has passed quality control and is ready for submission, medical transcription software can make documents available in a variety of formats. The report can be synchronized to a doctor’s handheld device or computer, or simply sent in electronic form for easy printing. Continue Reading »

Open source php based online merchant software

Tuesday 13 May 2008 @ 11:53 pm

I’ve always been asked… what’s a good and free open source e-commerce software to implement?

Nowadays, more and more retailers are trying to build e-store to showcase their products online. Some are just happy to be able to display the varieties of products available for sale on their site while some go the distance to provide the ability for their customers to purchase from their online store.

So when it comes to starting off an online store, most retailers are not willing to spend much on developing a sophisticated online store. They just want the ability to easily upload images and prices of their store products. With this simple requirement in mind, the following are the top two php based open source online merchant software available for you to implement right away.

1. Magento

Magento - Open Source Merchant StoreThe first thing that I realized when I visited Magento’s site is it’s cool and neat design. Looking through the demo site, I’m amazed at the available features and how profOSCommerce - Open Source Merchant Storeessional the store looks. Somehow it makes me want to buy stuffs from the page! In summary, these are some of Magento’s features:

  • Wishlist
  • Product Browsing
  • Catalog Management
  • Shap by Price and Category
  • Order Management
  • Payment Management
  • Site Management
  • Search Engine Optimization

The best feature with Magento is the search engine optimization capability where it displays the name of your product as part of the url. This helps your unique products rank higher within search engines.

2. OSCommerce

OSCommerce - Open Source Merchant StoreDid you know that OSCommerce has been around for quite a long time. Since they started, there are already about 177,000 store owners on OSCommerce. Some popular stores are TruffleShuffle and LinuxUk.

The best thing about OSCommerce is the vast availability of templates to download for free or purchase. You can get a professionally design template for less than $100 and have your store up in less than a week. The downside of OSCommerce is its lack of support for SEO. You may need some 3rd party component in order to have SEO optimized URLs. Other than that, it’s another fine open source online merchant software.

My two cents

To save you time on researching for which online merchant software to go for, simply start off with these two and evaluate which of these two software suites your store best. All the others out there are good too but I feel that currently both of these software are neck to neck in terms of capabilities and reliability. Best part, it’s free… you just need to spend time implementing it or simply hire someone to do it for you. Happy setting up your online store!

Friday 2 May 2008 @ 12:11 am

Ohh no… my brother just deleted my files and emptied it from the recycle bin. There goes my hard work assignment which is due tomorow!!! Arrghh… what can I do now?

Gone hard disk assignment

Searching through the web for ways to recover my file, I stumbled on this site called Recuva which claims to be able to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from my pc. It’s basically able to recover files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been accidentally deleted from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It also claims to bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses! The best part is that it’s a freeware, meaning I could download it for free and use it to recover my file.

Recuva - freeware recycle bin file recovery tool

Without hesitating, I downloaded Recuva and installed it immediately. Recuva to the rescue! I got my file back and the tool basically saved my assignment. Boy was I relieved.
Now that my problem is fixed and solved, there are two things left for me to do:

  1. Donate to Recuva for saving my file. It’s so they can keep up the good work and continue creating more good stuffs for us.
  2. Get even with my brother. I’m hiding his PSP! Muahahahhahaha!
