How to run applications from a USB

A good way to run applications is to use portable applications. So what are portable applications?

usbA portable application is a computer program that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any Windows computer. When your USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod or other portable device is plugged in, you have access to your software and personal data just as you would on your own PC. And when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind.

Benefits of running applications from USB:

  • Carry your web browser with all your favorite bookmarks
  • Carry your calendar with all your appointments
  • Carry your email client with all your contacts and settings
  • Carry your instant messenger and your buddy list
  • Carry your whole office suite along with your documents and presentations
  • Carry your antivirus program and other computer utilities
  • Carry all your important passwords and account information securely

Some sample applications available for the portable device are like:

  • Office Software
  • Email/Calendar/ToDo Programs
  • Text and Voice Messengers
  • Media Tools (Audio / Video)
  • Graphics Viewers and Image Editors
  • Browsers and Web Tools (FTP, Feedreaders, Torrent clients…)
  • Security Software
  • Games
  • Other Portable Utilities

Thanks for posting this article. I’m decidedly frustrated with struggling to search out pertinent and intelligent commentary on this issue. Everybody today goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either: everyone else in the planet is wrong, or two that everyone but them does not really understand the situation. Many thanks for your concise, pertinent insight.
