Great slide about the ecosystem of Open Source
|
|
Ever asked yourself any of the following questions about Open Source:
- What are the main differences between an open source solution compared to a closed source solution?
- If I’m a user of a an open source solution, should I contribute back to the open source community in any way?
- What are the common advantages and disadvantages of implementing an open source solution?
You can find out more about the entire ecosystem of Open Source from this great slide created by 55thinking.com
My comments about the slide:
- The points in each slide is so true. As a user and implementor of open source solutions myself, I can verify the stated pros and cons of open source solutions.
- Many will not see the wonders of open source solutions until they have decided to try out an open source solution. How I started out is because of a direct order from a superior to implement Joomla! on a client’s site. At the beginning, it was really tough as I came from a Microsoft development background. But there was no looking back after that. Open Source solutions remains an option to when it comes to systems implementations.
- Forums are the best place to seek help and support for open source solutions.
- I love all the images! This is my favourite as it reminds me of myself when I first started off exploring open source.

From this great slide about the ecosystem of Open Source, hopefully some of you will give Open Source solutions a try.
