An online startup creation application

Wednesday 10 September 2008 @ 8:56 am

Everyone knows that when a good software sells well it provides a form of passive income. But we also know it’s not easy to develop software by ourself. To develop a successful software or online business usually requires a team of programmers, designers, and testers. Unless you are Markus Frind, the owner of PlentyofFish.com then it’s a different story all together.

If you’re planning to start your own virtual online business, check out FairSoftware - the place to start and grow your virtual online business.

The key processes of utilizing FairSoftware:

  • To start an online business, simply agree to the “Software Bill Of Rights” and you’ve just created a virtual business that can legally develop and sell software to consumers.
  • Easily add people to your team by simply creating job openings and specify the number of shares you are offering.
  • Management of the people in your team as well as the number of shares you’re offering can all be managed online.
  • Once the software is fully developed and is ready to sell, just set the price and the EULA, FairSoftware will generate an encrypted payment button to be place on your site.
  • Any revenue made will be paid accordingly to each shareholder.

Basically FairSoftware acts as a middleman which helps to bring your team together. It also provides protections to each team member through its Software Bill of Rights which must be agreed by each team member prior to creating and joining a particular project.

It will be interesting to see if real software can be succesfully developed and created through the help of FairSoftware. Who knows, maybe the next Microsoft or Google will emerge from within FairSoftware. Lets us see.

How to check if your PC or Notebook supports Vista

Tuesday 9 September 2008 @ 8:51 am

Planning to upgrade your Windows XP to Vista?

You should check whether your pc or notebook and the software that you have is compatible with the Vista Operating System.

I’ve got a friend who reformatted his harddisk which contains Windows XP on it only to find out that his 4 year old machine is not able to install Vista because it lacks requirement.

To check for the compatibility, download and install Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) 5.0.

The ACT tool will run a test on your machine and tell you about any upgrades you might need to make before running Vista. You can also use the ACT to:

  • Verify an application’s compatibility with a new version of the Windows operating system, or a Windows Update, including determining your risk assessment.
  • Become involved in the ACT Community, including sharing your risk assessment with other ACT users.
  • Test your Web applications and Web sites for compatibility with new releases and security updates to the Windows Internet Explorer Internet browser.

Download Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) 5.0.

How to clean up and regain some hard disk space

Monday 8 September 2008 @ 5:25 am

Recently I realized that my three (3) year old machine is running slowly. Every time I launch an application, it would take at least a minute for it to load up.

Checking through the available space on my hard disk, I see that only 2.5 GB out of 74.4 GB space is available. This must be the reason why my machine is running slowly. Ever since I started using the machine, it has not been cleaned up in anyway. Short to say, everything goes in, nothing comes out!

At the same time, I also needed some space to install a database to work on some programming assignment. Since the size of the database is at least 10 GB, I need to clean up and regain enough hard disk space to be able to start work. Otherwise, I’m stuck as I can’t go screaming to my boss.. I need a new server with big hard disk capacity! Times are bad and I’m sure my boss won’t spend money on a new server just like that.

With this challenge, the only thing I could do is to delete unwanted files and backup the necessary ones to an external HDD. This task itself is a challenge because I do not know where the big files are. Imagine 3 years of data sitting deep inside folders. How would I know which folder holds to the big files?
