Load up your PC faster with an instant on software

starting_windowsLet me ask you this. How long does it take for your PC to start up every day?

Depending on how powerful your machine is and the number of software and service which needs to be started on your operating system, the time it takes for you to actually begin working on your PC could vary from 20 seconds to 2 minutes.

On my older DELL notebook, I would usually click on the power button and then go make myself a cup of coffee. By the time I return, I can start work immediately without having to stare at the screen for it to boot up.

This situation is OK if we’re not in a hurry to access an important email or website. Imagine if you just got to work and your boss calls you on the phone to immediately reply to his urgent email. That 30 – 40 seconds wait before everything starts up feels like its taking forever.

Every morning after I wake up, I want to check my emails and my site for some important stats. Starting up the notebook does take a while, which was why I went for a Garmin Asus G60 – a Navigation Phone which allows me to get access to the web within a few seconds. Of course, the web browsing capability is just one of the many reasons why I got the navigation phone.

Before this, I was also tempted to purchase either an Asus Eee PC or Asus Eee Box simply because it has a feature called ExpressGate which allows me to get access to a web browser in within 7 seconds. See a video on ExpressGate below:

But times are bad and not everyone is willing to purchase a new netbook or desktop just to get online faster.

We all need a solution to our currently slow to start machine.

Well there may a solution for you, depending if your machine has been tested upon on. Check out Phoenix HyperSpace.

HyperSpace-logoHyperSpace is a product which provides instant on access to web browsing, emailing, productivity applications, etc.

What it does is it allows your PC to start up as quickly as a smartphone. But don’t be mistaken. This product does not make your existing OS start up faster but instead install HyperSpace into your machine as if it’s a separate OS altogether.

There are currently two versions of HyperSpace:

  • HyperSpace Dual
  • HyperSpace Hybrid

Basically the Hybrid version allows you to run Windows and HyperSpace together side by side while the Dual version allows you to run either Windows or HyperSpace.

I have downloaded the HyperSpace 21 day trial and tested it on my machine.

The installation went well as HyperSpace was installed in about 30 minutes after which a reboot was required. Once my machine restarted, launching into HyperSpace was quite fast. Definitely below 10 seconds! See a HyperSpace Demo below:

Based on my observation:

  • Yes, HyperSpace did start up much faster than my Windows OS did.
  • Closing the monitor and opening it back up shows HyperSpace instantly.

The only downside about HyperSpace is it’s not tested on all machine yet. So in my case, HyperSpace was successfully installed on my Dell Inspiron 1420 which has 4GB RAM and a T6400 CPU but the wireless device doesn’t work. Somehow it did not detect any wireless connection. Maybe my wireless adapter is not compatible with HyperSpace yet.

For a list of Phoenix tested platforms, check it out here.

Too bad HyperSpace doesn’t work on my machine yet. If not, I would seriously consider subscribing to one. I really hope that Microsoft themselves can create an OS which is instant on so that we can quickly access some of the following:

  • Email
  • Internet browser
  • Instant messaging
  • Videos
  • Pictures
  • Audios

An instant on OS which allows access to any of the above would be really good.

If your machine has been tested with HyperSpace already, do give it a try. Who knows, it might just come in handy when you need to access your emails urgently.
