My experience using Microsoft Office 2010 Beta

Last week, I wrote a post on Microsoft Office Professional 2010 Beta Download is OUT.
Today, I finally gave it a try. After about 15 minutes trying out Word and Excel, I got a little impatient as I tried to find out what new features are available compared to the previous version. After all, this is what we are after. New features to help us get our office productivity work done faster and neater.
I hope that when the Office 2010 is launched next year, some tutorials / help files which explains what is new will be incorporated especially when it’s launched for the first time, so that we can save some time trying to figure out what’s new and what’s not.
Rather than toying with the Office 2010 Beta further, I got lazy and checked out these resources instead:
- Office 2010: New Features by BeingManan.com
- Office 2010 Beta: A Visual Tour of What’s New by PCWorld.com
From these resources, what I really liked about the upcoming Office 2010 are:
User Interface
The overall design of Office 2010 looks sharp and is easy for our eyes. The toolbar and functions stand out clearly, allowing quicker access to common tools and buttons. Since we spend much time on word editing as well as Outlook emailing, the improved user interface will definitely help.
Screen capture capability
The screen capture capability within Office means that we can easily capture screen shots as well as image snippets as we’re working on our document. Previously, I depended on SnagIt to capture images, saved it into a folder, followed by inserting the image into the document. Way too many steps. This useful feature is a real time saver.
Excel’s sparklines
Sparklines allow us to insert small little graphs in within an Excel columns. Previously we had to depend on a 3rd party apps to help us achieve this. I wrote about this sometime back, check it out on – create small charts within excel for dashboard purposes
—————————————— End ——————————————–
I’m sure there are many more useful features available in Office 2010, but the above three caught my attention the most.
Psst! Did you know that with just 20 minutes a day, you can improve your IT management skills and you will boost your career.

For sparklines that work with older Excel version (Excel 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007) have a look on MicroCharts
