An alternative to reinstalling your XP or Vista OS
|
|
There are many reasons why we need to sometimes reinstall our operating system (Windows XP or Vista).
Some of the common reasons include:
- It’s slow to start up.
- There are bugs in the OS caused by viruses or malwares.
- Certain common applications like the browsers just won’t work anymore.
- The windows registry is messed up and I don’t know how to fix it.
In fact, all the above are happening to my friend’s Prestigio laptop right now.
I’m pretty sure that by formatting the hard disk and reinstalling the OS would do the trick.
However, reinstalling takes up a lot of time. One of the most time consuming task is finding which files to backup. If you’re like me, a bit unorganized, I put my documents everywhere. A few here and a few there.
One solution for you is to just take an image of your entire partition. I did this yesterday via Easeus Todo Backup 1.1 and it managed to capture my 140GB C partition in within 2 hours. The only thing to do now is to test the restoration on a new and empty hard disk. Will write a post on that once done.
So, if you’re not into reinstalling your OS because you can’t afford the half a day downtime having to:
- Backup files
- Format the hard disk
- Reinstalling the OS
- Patch and update the OS
- Install drivers
- Install common applications like Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader and Skype
Then you might want to consider this alternative to reinstalling your XP or Vista OS.
This is how I did it on my friend’s laptop! By installing Jolicloud!
Jolicloud is a new operating system meant for netbooks. Built via the Linux OS, Jolicloud was built specifically for netbook user to leverage the Cloud.
I initially thought that Jolicloud can only be installed on netbooks. Mine is a laptop / notebook, will it go in? I tried it on my friend’s machine, a Prestigio notebook (not many people have heard of) and indeed it did install perfectly. All the devices were detected and running without any problems.
There are many reason why I like the new OS Jolicloud. Here are a few:
Jolicloud is Free
Unlike some OS which you would need to purchase and still give you problems with viruses and BSOD, Jolicloud is currently available for you to download and use for free today!
Jolicloud’s Quick Startup
With Jolicloud, I can get to my favorite apps like the Firefox browser much faster. This is because it doesn’t need to load up a lot of services and background running apps before you can access the browser. I guess it really depends on what you need to first access when your machine loads up.
Jolicloud’s UI looks Cool

It says it all!

A few months ago I wrote about the Google Chrome OS. It now looks to me that we no longer need to wait for the Chrome OS to be releases as Jolicloud does the same thing already.
When I show this new OS to my friend, she asked me these questions:
Alice: Is my Windows XP still there?
Me: Yes it is, when the machine starts up, you’ll be given a choice of whether to load into XP or JoliCloud
Alice: Is there Microsoft Office like Word or Excel in JoliCloud?
Me: Nope, there’s no Office, but have you heard of Google Docs?
Alice: Can I still watch movies (RMVB) and listen to music?
Me: Yes, you can.
Alice: Ok, I’m happy now! Thanks a bunch for installing JoliCloud for me! Muaks!
