For those who aren’t here to find a way to get back a deleted file, my advice to you is to always backup your important files and documents rather than to rely on data recovery software because it just might or might not recover your file.

All these while, whenever someone ask me what software I would recommend for them to recover accidentally deleted files, I would tell them to check out this free tool Recuva, which I previously wrote about here.

Just in case you have tried Recuva and couldn’t recover your file, another one which you could also try out is Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition 5.0.1

Before we proceed, one thing which must be highlighted is that the free version is only free for you to recover up to 1GB of data. Anything more than that, there’s a fee to it. So if you want to recover a couple of word documents and photos, 1GB should be sufficient.

The data recovery tool allows 3 types of recovery:

  • Format recovery – recover files from formatted partition
  • Partition recovery – recover files from lost or deleted partition
  • Delete recovery – recover deleted files from Recycle Bin even if it’s emptied

I downloaded Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition 5.0.1 and installed it on my machine.

What I like about this software is it gives us a warning not to install it on the drive that contains lost data. So for example if you know that the file that you want to recover is in drive C, you should install this software on drive D.

It is important that the installation of the software does not overwrite the image the lost file might be on.

Generally it’s advisable to restrict from using the computer too much until the data is recovered or at least confirmed unrecoverable.

Below is the warning from the software:

We strongly recommend never installing Data Recovery Wizard on the same drive that you want to recover data from. Installation to the same drive will cause a permanent data loss and less chance to restore.
Current installation path: C:\Program Files\EASEUS\EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Free Edition 5.0.1
When you uninstall the version, the scanning result will be saved in the installation folder, which can be automatically used by the full version to recover files directly. Continue to Install?

When I installed Recuva, I didn’t remember such warnings. So you see how different software handles data recovery differently.

I hope today’s post provide you some insights and alternatives for you to recover data.

Let us know if any of these software helps you to recover your accidentally deleted files.
