Recently our organization purchased for a senior management one of the latest and priciest notebook in town, a Lenovo X300 ThinkPad priced at about USD 2,900 (July 2008). ÃÖ±Ù¿¡ ¿ì¸® Á¶Á÷ÀÌ ¸¶À»¿¡¼­ ÃֽŰú °¡Àå ºñ½Ñ ³ëÆ®ºÏÀÇ °íÀ§ °ü¸®¸¦ Çϳª ±¸ÀÔ, ·¹³ë ¹ö´Â ¾ÅÅ©ÆÐµå X300 °¡°ÝÀº ¾à 2900 ´Þ·¯ (712 2008).

The notebook at that time was not available in stock on many outlets since we called numerous notebook shops to enquire about its availability. ±× ´ç½Ã ³ëÆ®ºÏÀÇ Àç°í°¡ ¸¹Àº Á¡Æ÷ ÀÌÈÄ ¼ö¸¹Àº ¿ì¸®ÀÇ °¡¿ë¼º¿¡ ´ëÇØ ¹®ÀÇÇÏ´Â ÀüÈ­ ³ëÆ®ºÏ ¸ÅÀå¿¡¼­ »ç¿ëÇÒ ¼ö¾ø½À´Ï´Ù. In the end, we contacted Lenovo directly and was forwarded to a distributor who told us that we had to wait for at least 2 weeks in order to get hold of the notebook. °á±¹, ¿ì¸®°¡ Á÷Á¢ Á¢Ã˰ú ·¹³ë ¹öÀÇ À¯ÅëÀ» ´©°¡ ¿ì¸®¸¦ À§ÇØ ³ëÆ®¸¦ Àâ¾Æ ÃÖ¼ÒÇÑ 2 ÁÖ µ¿¾È ±â´Ù·Á¾ß¸¸ ¿ì¸® ¾ê±â¸¦ Àü´ÞÇß´Ù. Since the decision was already made to purchase this unit, we ordered the notebook and it did indeed reached us in 2 weeks time. ÀÌÈÄ °áÁ¤Àº À̹ÌÀÌ ÀåÄ¡¸¦ ±¸ÀÔÇß´Ù, ¿ì¸®´Â ³ëÆ®¸¦ Áö½ÃÇÏ°í ±×°ÍÀº ÂüÀ¸·Î ¿ì¸® ÀÌÁÖ ½Ã°£¿¡ µµ´Þ Çß¾î.

The initial comments we¡¯ve got from people who looked and felt at it for the first time: ¿ì¸®°¡ ´©±¸¸¦ óÀ½ »ý°å°í ±×°Í¿¡ ´ëÇÑ »ç¶÷µéÀÇ ´À³¦ÀÖ¾î Ãʱâ ÄÚ¸àÆ® :

  • It doesn¡¯t look good. ÁÁ¾Æ º¸ÀÌÁö ¾Ê´Â´Ù.
  • Wow, it¡¯s damn light. ¿Í¿ì, ±×°Í ÄÑ.
  • The notebook bag seems heavier that the notebook itself. ³ëÆ®ºÏ °¡¹æÀº ³ëÆ®ºÏ ÀÚü°¡ ¹«°Å¿î °Í °°´Ù.
  • It doesn¡¯t really looks like it¡¯s worth about USD 2,900. ¸¶Ä¡ 2900 ´Þ·¯¿¡ ´ëÇÑ °¡Ä¡ÀÇ ÀÌ°Ç Á¤¸» ¾È º¸ÀδÙ. Oh well.. ¾Æ ±Û½ê .. maybe it¡¯s whats inside that matters most. ¾Æ¸¶µµ ±× ¾È¿¡ ¹«¾ùÀÌ °¡Àå Áß¿äÇÕ´Ï´Ù.
  • Wow, this notebook is worth more than my 7 year old car! ¿Í¿ì,ÀÌ ³ëÆ®¸¦ Á¦ Ä¥³â ³°Àº Â÷¸¦º¸´Ù ´õ °¡Ä¡°¡ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù!

Once the notebook arrived, I never thought I needed to do anything to it and just passed the notebook the the senior management staff. ÀÏ´Ü ³ëÆ®ºÏ¿¡ µµÂø, ³»°¡ ¾Æ¹«°Íµµ ÇÒ Çʿ䰡 ¹æ±Ý ³ëÆ®ºÏ °íÀ§ °ü¸® Á÷¿ø Åë°ú »ó»óµµ ¸øÇß¾î¿ä.

A few weeks later, I was requested by the senior management staff to assist in transfering Microsoft Outlook emails and data from the old notebook to the new X300 ThinkPad with Windows Vista Business installed. ¸î ÁÖ ÈÄ, Àü °íÀ§ °ü¸® Á÷¿ø¿¡ ÀÇÇØ »õ·Î¿î ¾ÅÅ©ÆÐµå X300 À©µµ¿ì ºñ½ºÅ¸ ºñÁî´Ï½º¿Í MS ¾Æ¿ô·è À̸ÞÀÏ ¹× ±âÁ¸ ³ëÆ®ºÏ¿¡¼­ µ¥ÀÌÅÍ Àü¼Û¿¡ µµ¿òÀ» ¿äûÇß´Ù ¼³Ä¡µÇ¾î ÀÖ¾î¾ßÇÕ´Ï´Ù. During this time, I had to activate the wireless connection on the X300 in order to connect to the Internet. ÀÌ ½Ã°£ µ¿¾È, ³­ À§Çؼ­´Â ÀÎÅͳݿ¡ ¿¬°áÇÏ·Á¸é X300¿¡ ¹«¼± ¿¬°áÀ» Ȱ¼ºÈ­Çß´Ù. Upon successfully setting up the wireless connection, I managed to connect to the Internet for a few minutes before the whole machine just freezed. ¹«¼± ¿¬°áÀ» ¼º°øÀûÀ¸·Î ¼³Á¤, Àü ¸î ºÐ µ¿¾È ÀÎÅͳÝÀ¸·Î ±×³É freezed Àü¿¡ Àüü ½Ã½ºÅÛ¿¡ ¿¬°áÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ¾ú´Ù. Moving the mouse didn¡¯t work. ¸¶¿ì½º°¡ ÀÛµ¿ÇÏÁö ¾Ê¾Ò´Ù À̵¿ÇÕ´Ï´Ù. Pressing Ctrl + Alt+ Del didn¡¯t work as well. Ctrl ۸¦ ´©¸£¸é + Alt + DelÀ»»Ó ÀÛµ¿ÇÏÁö ¾Ê¾Ò´Ù.
